winamp skinz

i'm trying to make one, and my damn bitmap editor keeps refusing to recognize certain colors that i try to use. this only happens on certain sections of the skin i'm working on, and it's annoying the shit out of me. can anyone tell me where to get a better bitmap editor? preferably for free?

I really dont know shit about such things but I have heard this mentioned a few times on different forums: Gimp. (http://www.thefab.net/topics/computing/co05_gimp.htm)

Kayla (http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000035.html) may be able to help you out a little more. She makes some kick-ass skins. I am still using the the TribalAmp she made.

Lot of red X's in that thread but its old.

photoshop, paint shop pro and other similar programs can save as BMP without a problem.
